“I love all things classic and timeless,” Laufey says over Zoom. “My music is inspired by vintage and built on things that have lasted years but with a modern touch.” The singer-songwriter and musician takes the same approach to building her wardrobe.

Her style icon is 1960s and ’70s star Jane Birkin, but as a Nordic girl who splits her time between L.A. and Iceland, she also dresses seasonally. “I feel so inspired by my environment,” she explains. “When I’m in L.A., I wear more carefree, loose, silky, and lacy items that I couldn’t wear in Iceland unless I was layering on 20 sweaters.”

Below, see where Laufey got the pieces that made their way into her curated wardrobe and home.

Where did you get your favorite accessories?

My collaboration with Catbird. Some of it was inspired by rabbits. I’m half Chinese and half Icelandic, and I was born in the year of the rabbit. The first things I ever got were gold rabbit necklaces. Rabbits are a sign of good luck and wit. In the collaboration, I’ve been able to be really feminine and find strength in that. This collection is a lot of what I wanted to wear when I was a little girl, which I still want to wear, but now I just have the confidence to do so. I love ribbons. I love having girlish elements in the most unexpected of places. I love the ribbon moon; there’s a sarcasm and humor to that, too. The bunny is probably my favorite, but I also love the earrings.

This Paco Rabanne chain bag is from Paris. I wore it with a Courrèges burgundy vinyl jacket just to go with the whole French-mod look. I also wore it with a shawl and white floral tights, and it was very light and feminine, but the bag made it a little tougher. I stuffed my entire wallet into it, and I thought that was kind of impressive; it carries more than I thought it would.

Bode. I’ve been wearing my sailor jeans with cotton shirts. I got them in the Bode store in L.A. It’s my favorite store; it’s such an experience, and it smells so good. You could sell me anything in there because I just want to take on the essence of the store. They’re these fun jeans that are so hard to put on because there are buttons. I have some shirts from Pretties, a fun designer in L.A. that makes these beautiful long-sleeve and pointelle tops from vintage fabrics. I also love the cotton basics from Brandy Melville.

Where did you get what’s on your nightstand?

I have Icelandic water because it reminds me of home for when I’m feeling fancy. I have Invisalign right now, so that’s 80 percent of my nighttime routine. At night, I’m like a 13-year-old; I take my contacts out and put my braces in. I have Moscot tortoiseshell glasses; they’re kind of like my staple. I’m currently reading Bonjour Tristesse. It’s a book about a silly little girl in the French countryside. I just returned from Paris and decided to read something by a French author, and Junia, my twin sister, loved it. It’s cheeky and a good summer read. It’s getting me into a good mood, and I’ve been listening to François Hardy to set the scene. I love making playlists for the books I’m reading, especially when they’re set in a different country or a different time.

Where did you get the item that gets complimented the most?

My sunglasses are from Chloé. I bought them in London, and I went to the show a couple of weeks ago and got a pair there as well. I love the big bug-eyed look; it’s so maximalist and fun. I like that we’re embracing looking a little weird. I’m not really into the minimalistic thing right now. I think life is too fun.

Where did you get your signature scent?

Rozu from Aesop. It’s my mom’s scent. I discovered it in her drawer; she tried it and then started using another one from Aesop, so I started using it. It reminds me of her and feels youthful and fresh. I’ve been wearing it for a long time, and people have started to recognize it, so I want to wear something a little different now.

Dôen. My favorite is this patchwork dress that I got four or five years ago. It has a ton of different colors and puff sleeves. I wear it with a pullover and clogs. I have a pair I got at Galeries Lafayette in France. I had been looking at some really fancy ones and then found some for 100 euros.

Where did you get the item you splurged on the most?

Chanel. I bought a pair of slingbacks. They’re lavender and tweed, and they are the least practical shoes ever. They’re a light color; there’s a heel and they’re not necessarily comfortable, but they look like doll shoes. When I splurge on shoes, I like to get Chanel; if I’m going to spend money on something, it has to be the shoes I dreamed about having when I was a kid.

My mary jane pumps from Carel. I literally wear them with everything; they are like my sneakers. I have black-patent ones and red-patent ones I stole off a set one time. I wear the black ones with a ton of different tights. They look good with vintage jeans or trousers.

Hay. I’m a Nordic girl! Have to have some Hay in my house. It’s a white sofa. I got it during a New Year’s sale. I was so nervous, but I love it so much because it was the first big-girl thing I bought for my apartment. It goes with everything, and I have these big fluffy sheepskin pillows from Iceland on it.

My plates are from Crate & Barrel. My forks and knives are from a French company called Sabre. They were a gift from my sister, so they’re extra-special. They’re really cute, but they feel kind of casual. They’re white and have dots on them; they feel like they’re meant to be for a family dinner.
